About
Mike Haynes was a three-time All WAC and a two-time All-American as a defensive back while at Arizona State University, and helped lead the Sun Devils to an undefeated 12-0 season and #2 national ranking in 1975. Haynes is in the ASU Hall of Fame, the ASU Ring of Honor at Frank Kush Field, and his #40 jersey has been retired by both ASU and the NFL New England Patriots. After a 14 year pro career that ended with the Raiders he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997. Haynes was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001. He played both QB and DB for Los Angeles John Marshall High School, and he is in such esteem that Marshall has renamed the school football stadium in Mike's honor. The inaugural Mike Haynes Award will be presented at the Chapter's 23rd Annual AZ High School Champions Luncheon and will recognize the Top Arizona Senior Defensive Back following the end of the 2015 season.
