Who is bill riddle?

his
Story

Bill Riddle was a passionate supporter of youth athletics and a devoted member of the NFF, serving as both a board member and President. He and his wife, Janie, played a key role in promoting the values of leadership, teamwork, and integrity through sport. Their commitment to young athletes and tireless efforts to uplift the next generation made them beloved and respected figures in our community.
More than just a contributor, Bill was a true champion of character - someone who showed up, made things happen, and always put others first. Whether he was mentoring a young player, organizing community events, or advocating for athletic programs, Bill brought heart, energy, and purpose to everything he did, never expecting anything in return.
His impact can be seen not just in the programs he helped grow, but in the lives he touched - many of whom still carry his lessons with them today. Bill believed in the power of sports to build better people, and he lived that belief every day.
Though he is no longer with us, the spirit of his work continues through Janie and the rest of the board, shaping our mission and inspiring all who follow in his footsteps.
The man, the myth, the legend.
What is the national football foundation, bill riddle chapter?
The Bill Riddle Chapter, formerly the Valley of the Sun Chapter, was chartered in 1971 and is today one of the National Football Foundation’s largest and most active chapters. Our stated mission is “to honor the traditions of the game of football at the amateur level; to recognize academic and athletic excellence as well as community-school achievements at the college, high school and youth levels; and, to conduct programs that further the character-building qualities of the game and fulfill a demonstrated need, especially to the underserved population.” As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we place great emphasis on education as it relates to effective, sports-based programming. We have been able to develop collaborative partnerships with other groups committed to promoting amateur football in Arizona where our combined efforts result in greater impact and a higher level of success. In a single sentence, our purpose is “Making athletics better for kids, and making kids better through athletics". For over 50 years the Chapter's Scholar-Athlete Scholarship program and Annual Awards Banquet has been our signature event as we honor Arizona college and high school football players for their academic, athletic and leadership accomplishments. We have recognized in excess of 1,300 student-athletes from over 194 high schools and the Arizona colleges and universities, and since 1988 the Chapter has awarded over a Million Dollars in college scholarship commitments. In addition, each year we honor deserving adults who have made significant contributions to the game of amateur football and have distinguished themselves in later life. The Chapter has promoted the candidacies of deserving retired coaches and former All-American players for the College Football Hall of Fame. Seven coaches and fourteen players from Arizona's three major universities have been inducted into the Hall, which is now located in Atlanta, Georgia. The most recent inductee is Arizona State Sun Devil All-American -DB David Fulcher, who was enshrined in 2021. Each year, the members of the NFF Chapters have the opportunity to vote for additional players and coaches for selection to the most current class of inductees into the Hall.
a letter from our president
Allow me to introduce the National Football Foundation, Bill Riddle Chapter. We are one of 120 chapters across the nation, totaling over 120,000 members. The Bill Riddle Chapter is proud to be one of the most active chapters within the foundation, always striving to reach further. The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame was founded in 1947, with its primary goal being to encourage academic and athletic achievement in younger generations. The Bill Riddle Chapter shares this goal, uplifting extraordinary students across the valley through awarded scholarships and recognition events. Our chapter members share a common belief - the game of football is a vehicle to build leadership, responsibility, and focus. With these pillars of character, we can guide these students to become model citizens in their community, no matter which path they choose to take. I am honored to serve as president of the Bill Riddle Chapter and invite you to participate in this great cause. Whether that involves Board membership, Chapter donations, or simply enjoying the game of football, the choice is yours. We are happy to save you a seat at the table.
